Pulp and paper mill projects and capacity changes

Track new mills, expansions, conversions, closures and restarts across the fibre value chain. A useful project record identifies the company, mill, location, grade, net capacity change, project stage and expected start-up. Announced, permitted, under construction and operating describe different stages and should not be combined as confirmed supply.

Calculate the net change

Separate new capacity from replacement equipment, transferred production and grade conversions. State annual metric tons and distinguish pulp from paper and integrated from market pulp. A converted machine can add one grade while removing another; it is not necessarily a net increase in total output.

Keep a project history

Preserve the original announcement and record subsequent changes to timing, scope and status. Commissioning is followed by ramp-up, so annual nameplate capacity should not be treated as first-year production. Use the linked stories to follow changes rather than counting repeated announcements as separate projects.
