Pulp markets: prices, supply and demand

Follow the developments behind pulp markets, from mill operating rates and inventories to trade and paper demand. Market pulp is sold to other producers; integrated pulp is consumed within a producer’s own operations. A capacity announcement alone does not establish how much additional pulp will reach the market.

Compare like with like

Distinguish hardwood, softwood, unbleached, fluff and dissolving pulp. Report the grade, destination, period, currency and whether a price is announced, assessed or realized. Values derived from trade data also reflect changes in product mix and contractual timing.

Read supply and demand together

Capacity measures potential output, while production, shipments and inventories show different parts of the market. Commissioning dates, ramp-up, maintenance and market-related downtime affect the timing of supply. Use the linked news below alongside the definitions and coverage of each dataset.
